Adventures in Dallas.
Thursday night we went to the Mav's game.
Well, let me back up...
I took Thursday and Friday off work for the sole purpose of going to the Mav's first game of the Season, which happened to be against the Spurs in Dallas. Planning ahead, as I love to do, we had printed out directions to the American Airlines Center and Jamba Juice. We drove up Thursday morning/afternoon and hung out at Nanny's house while waiting to figure out A&M's plans. At about 5:00-ish we met them and Brittney (A's sister) and Ashley (M's sister) at ValleyView mall. Although we mentioned that we had directions, A reasoned that M should drive because "he knew the way". So off we went. As we cruised down 75, M asked J which exit he should take. J said to exit at Victory Way. M decided that instead of waiting, he would just exit where we were. Soon after, we came across a Whataburger and they decided to grab a bite to eat.
This is where is starts to go wrong...
Apparently upon leaving Whataburger, a wrong turn was taken. We drove around for awhile before Brittney finally accused M of being lost. Much to our surprise, he admitted that he was, in fact, completely lost. As Brittney counted down the minutes ("32 minutes 'till tip-off"..."26 minutes 'till tip-off") we came across Armstrong Road several times and took a scenic drive through some nice Dallas neighborhoods. Long story somewhat shortened, we finally arrived at the stadium about 5 minutes into the game.
No worries, we thought, we'll just get our tickets and head in. We'll only have missed a few minutes. Well, apparently Ticketmaster has a rule stating that a person can purchase no more than 4 tickets on one credit card. Unfortunately, when the tickets were bought, it was thought that this meant 4 tickets at a time.
That's not what it means.
The second order of 2 tickets had been cancelled. Lucky for us, it was a sold out game. Hmm...so we spent the next several minutes talking to people scalping tickets out front. Most of the conversations went something like this:
Shady Black Dude: "You need tickets?"
Us: "yeah"
SBD: "How many?"
Us: "two"
SBD: "I give ya these 2 for 75 each"
Us: "75 dollars EACH?!"
SBD: "This game is sold out!...what you think you gonna get?"
Us: "Nah, that's too much, forget it."
SBD: "How much you got?"
Us: "$40"
SBD: "Aight, I can get you 2 singles for $60 each."
Us: "No, all we have is $40. We need 2 tickets."
SBD: "Aight, $50 each."
Us: "No, we don't have that much."
Anyway, we had this same conversation with about 4 different shady black dudes before we finally talked one of them into 2 tickets for $60. The sad part is, they were $10 tickets!
But seriously, by the time we got in, we all ended up having a great time. Hopefully the next game, which is here in SA, will be more successful!

Katie, it has been a while since you blogged, but this one was worth waiting for!! Glad you were able to salvage an okay evening out of such a fiasco! And that you had a good time. A few yeas ago, when G-dad was still working, we got tickets to the Suns games. It was the year they almost won the big one!! It was so much fun! We love you, and will continue to invite you to come to Phoenix sometime! Love you both!! COG
Mmmhhhh... that was confusing to say the least. A said M said J said X said... all I got was a bunch of us with one syllable names went to a game and had a great time. Nuf' said.
Shady Black Dudes are cool. It all sounds rather strange to me. Of course, going to a basketball game at all sounds rather strange to me. :)
Hey, if the Mavs ever play in Sac you should drive out to that game. We will meet you there and I am pretty sure we won't get lost. Yeck I will even bring you a Jamba.
So, is G-mom making fun of SBD's or New Yorkers. "A few yeas ago..." Pretty funny stuff, I am just sorry that we were unable to attend the Mav's game with y'all!
That sucks! Forgetting your tickets is not very fun either. I've never been to a NBA game, sounds like fun though.
Yo da game wuz sweet, main.
Did you see, we're now 0-3. Not a good start. We lost to a loser team. Can't remember who, but they shouldn't have won. Anyway.
I like it when you have those little dialog things. They make me laugh. Especially when they include Shady Black Dudes. :) Sorry there was so much confusion, but I'm glad you had fun! My guess is that even sports events can be made fun if you go to them to hang out with friends!
Oh, and don't forget: One month 'till my birthday!
One year, Kyle and I decided to go to a Suns game bought some tickets from a SWD. I think maybe y'all had more fun scalping, though. I don't remember if we won or not, but we did have fun.
