Happy Nevada Day!

I'm so stoked!
Zachary decided to come down to Pahrump while I am here! I was sitting out on the front porch, talking to Chuck, and he came cruising up! We talked about him coming several weeks ago, but I thought he had decided against it. Apparently, he has been planning it for a while, but kept it a secret from *almost* everyone so we would be totally surprised. Needless to say, we were.
Not sure what our plans will be for the rest of the week now, but I am excited that our whole family will get to hang out for a while.

In other news:
Only 4 days 'till we move to San Antonio!

He's so sweet

I wanted to get my hair cut yesterday. Well, really I just wanted the ends trimmed off. I called Supercuts to see if I could get an appointment and the chick said they only do walk-ins. I asked their hours and she told me 10-6. So after talking to my husband for a while, I headed out to Supercuts at about 10:30. I got there at about 10:35 (Pahrump is pretty small!) and the sign on the door said "CLOSED: Business hours...Friday 10:00 - 6:00..." But there wasn't really anything going on at home and I had my iPod with me, so I decided to sit there listening to music until someone showed up. At about 11:15 or so, the chick showed up and explained that she had locked herself out of the shop. Apparently she is the only one who works there. But she had found a locksmith so soon I was getting my haircut. She took off at least 2 inches, but I guess it's no big deal.
When I got home, these awesome flowers were sitting on the counter. Mom said they came for me!
They are personalized with a little I LOVE YOU card from my sweet husband. It's kind of hard to tell, but the vase is triangular, which Eisel and I think is super cute. I wish there was a way to keep them alive forever!! They will be brightening my days until I get to see my wonderful, thoughtful husband again next month.
Anyway, I thought I should share this, as I don't want Zachary to think he is the only awesome husband out there. Marla's last post made him sound prooty good!

Here is a close up.
Although I LOVE them, I don't know know anything about flowers,
I don't even know what they are called.
I'm sure someone out there must know...

My trip so far

I can't believe it's been so long. I'm sure all of my fans out there have been wondering about me. Well, I'm still here in the beautiful town of Pahrump. :)
My best friend Chuck (see picture posted below, if anyone reading this doesn't know him) left this morning to go back to Redding. I absolutely *hate* good-byes. I try so hard not to cry, but it seems to happen anyway. I'm getting better, though. I no longer hide out in my room to avoid them. Or maybe I just couldn't, as I don't have a room here. Although there really isn't much to do here, we had a great time hanging out. This is the most time we've spent together since 2002. I don't know when I'll get to see him again, so it makes the good-bye even harder. I'm trying to convince him to move to Texas, but so far it hasn't worked...so far... :)
Monday we all went to Vegas to do some shopping. Eisel and I had the pleasure of visiting 2 Old Navy stores in 1 day!! :) I had a $10 off coupon and a gift card that Chuck gave me for my birthday, so I got some great stuff! Also, we went to the Galleria Mall, where I got spend a while in Bath and Body Works, and get a few tubes of my flavorite lip gloss.
Tuesday Chuck and I went back to Vegas so I could see the strip and we could hang out and get some souvenirs for his brother and sister. We went to several casinos/hotels/malls on the strip, but the best part was watching the water fountain show in front of the Bellagio. We stayed for two songs, both of which were incredible to watch, and much cooler looking than I even expected.
While looking for the Bellagio, we found a Denny's in the middle of the strip, so that's where we had lunch. Delectable! (Even better than Sonic, Zachary!)
Another (more expensive) highlight of the day was riding the Manhattan Express, the roller coaster at New York New York. (It's the red one you see in skyline pictures of the strip.) That was a blast. The dude in front of us lost his hat and Chuck almost caught it!
Now I have a week and a day until I leave for San Antonio. Mom wants me to arrange her kitchen, so I figure that could take a day or so. There is a Chili Cook-Off/Hoe-down at church on Saturday night. Do y'all have *any* idea how much FUN that will be?!? We can hardly wait!
Vacation is fun, but I also can't wait to get to Texas and start a new phase of our lives there. The movers packed up most of our stuff Tuesday, I say "most" because they somehow *forgot* to pack several things. Ugh. Anyway, now Jay is living with loaner furniture for a few days until he goes into billetting on the 1st. I feel kinda guilty that he has had to spend all this time in England while I am in the states. I miss you, Jay! :)

Pahrump

Well, I slept for about 10 or so hours and I must say, I am feeling much better than I was last night!
I've been hearing about the dry, hot weather here for the past few months, but when we landed yesterday it was pouring down rain in Vegas. Last night we had a thunder/lightning/rain storm and it's been raining most of today as well. Hmm...not sure what happened to the desert-like weather, but I have not had the pleasure of experiencing it yet. It's funny, becuase when the fam came to see us in England it was warm and sunny for most of 2 weeks. Go figure. Anyway, we're supposed to get sun the rest of the week!
The camper I was supposed to stay in sold the day before I got here. Kind of a bummer. Thankfully, my selfless little sister is letting me sleep in her bed and she is sleeping on an air matress. Thanks, Eisel!! You're the best!
Tomorrow Chuck is supposed to get here (driving all the way from Redding)! I'm super stoked cuz I haven't gotten to see him since January, and even then we didn't get to spend a lot of time together since he went off to Hawaii. Chuck-if you're reading this, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU TOMORROW!!
We had Sonic for dinner last night, but I haven't had a limeade yet, Marla. I will have to try one while I'm though.
That's it for now!

I'm here!

Just a quick post to let everybody know that I made it to Pahrump safely. Thanks for your prayers. The flight was fine (after an hour and a half delay taking off!) and Pahrump is every bit as beautiful as Bob and the King made it out to be!
I wasn't sad to leave England, but it was hard leaving my wonderful husband behind. I hope I can make it through 2 and half weeks without him!!
Anyway, I'll write more later so y'all can share in the excitement as it happens! For now, I'm exhausted, I've been up for almost 22 hours without any *real* sleep!!

15 October 2005

2 days!

Yesterday was my last day of work. Wow, did that feel strange. I kinda felt like I shouldn't be leaving, so much was left undone. I keep having to remind myself it doesn't matter cuz it's not my responsibility anymore. The last couple days of training the new chick went better than the first few! They threw me a little going away party for lunch and gave me some cards and gifts, it was nice. Kelly hugged me good-bye and started crying when I left. It's nice to know that you'll be missed, but it made me feel kind of sorry for her. Long story short: she doesn't have many friends and is not close to her family at all. We didn't get along well when I started the job, but over the years, we've become friends. Apparently, to her, we were better friends than I thought. I guess there are just some things in life that I tend to take for granted.
We sold the car Wednesday night! Whoo-hoo! It's weird to walk out of the house and not see it sitting in the driveway. I've been walking everywhere the past few days. (Good thing I live/work/work-out on base, so nothing is very far away!) Some dude test-drove Jay's car yesterday and said he might be interested in buying it. He'd like to keep it for another week or two, but I guess he'll have to wait and see what happens. We'll definitely keep it through Monday, as he has to drive me to the airport that morning! :)
The movers came and surveyed our house for the final pack-out. I still can't believe I'm not going to be here for it. Jay and I realized last night that, since we've been married, the only time we've been apart overnight was about 3 years ago when he went TDY for 4 days! Now we're about to spend 2 and a half weeks in different countries! Wow.
Oh, update from my last post...I woke up Wednesday morning and the pain under my ribcage was totally gone! Medically speaking, I don't know *what* happened...either it was magic, or (more likely) God answers prayers!! :)
By the way, I assume everyone noticed that my music is gone... Filelodge lost a bunch of it's files (to include mine) and I haven't had internet access at home to replace it, so y'all get a break from having to mute it for awhile! :) I thought I should explain so people wouldn't think I did it just for Bob!

Two more days...

VIVA LAS VEGAS!

11 October 2005

good-bye car

Looks like we are about to sell my car. There's a couple that just got here a week ago that is interested in buying it. They're willing to offer $1,700. We were hoping to get between $1,800 and $2,000 for it, but we figure it's better to sell it for less than miss out on selling it before we go. We were starting to get a little worried over the weekend, so we're just thankful that it's working out.
I started training my replacement today at work. I thought it would be fun, but it turns out I don't like it much. Every little thing I try to show her reminds me of something else that she needs to know to understand the process...and so on and so forth...wow, talk about feeling totally scattered. Anyway, I now have only 3 days of work left, so that is exciting!! Friday they are having a surprise going-away party for me. (Obviously, someone ruined the "surprise" aspect of it!)
I think I'm gonna go to the doctor tomorrow. Sunday we were driving home from lunch and I got this really sharp pain behind my left ribcage. It hurts everytime I inhale. OUCH. I kept thinking it would go away, but it seems to be getting worse instead of better. I called and talked to a nurse who said that it sounds like a pulled muscle. It doesn't feel like that to me, but I guess I'll have to wait and see. More than likely they'll give me some 800mg motrin and send me on my way, but at least I'll know it's nothing to worry about! :)

ATTENTION CUSTOMER'S!

I saw this headline on several big signs at the BX yesterday. Some people.
It reminded me of one of the stupidest signs I've ever seen. I used to work at a grocery store that had a nice little floral department by the front entrance. One day I came into work and there was a huge sign proclaiming the great price they were offering for A DOZEN ROSE'S. Yeah...what?!?
Anyway, I don't really have anything exciting to blog about today and Starbucks is about to close, so that's it for now.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

The Land of my Ancestors

That's clever, Aunt Nisey! Kinda makes us all sound Biblical, don't ya think? :)
Our computer is gone (among other things) so I'm stuck emailing and blogging from Jay's lappy. This keyboard just feel wierd compared to mine! Luckily, he showed me how to turn off the trackpad mouse thingy. My thumbs kept touching it and activating Exposé!
Our unaccompanied baggage packout went smoothly. Those dudes are *quick*! They were in and out in less than 45 minutes. We were thinking about putting the table back up, but when I walk into the house and see that it's gone, it's just one more reminder that we are almost outta here!!
Crazy Uncle, I don't think I will miss the English countryside. Actually, where we are it isn't really pretty. However, the Scottish and Welsh countrysides are gorgeous! I would miss them, except that I only saw them a few times.
Well, I've just been told we have to go to the commissary, so I guess this is it for now. Check back later for more exciting news! :)

Numchuck skills...computer hacking skills...

You know...SKILLS!

As mom would say, the spare room now looks like it fell victim to a tornado, but we've actually gotten alot done this weekend! We have most of the stuff for our air-shipment ready to go. It's all sitting in a pile on the dining room rug. The only things left for tomorrow are the computer and the kitchen stuff (pots, pans, utensils, dishes). Figuring out which clothes to take was the hardest part. Let me ask all you Texans: is it unseasonably warm there or is it always like this?! It's weird packing warm weather clothes when it's 60˚or less outside! Anyway, I got some cleaning done, too. Hopefully that'll make it a little easier for Jay before the final inspection.

Tuesday or Thursday I am hoping to get an appointment at the Family Support Center to get some professional help with my resume. I found an HR vacancy with Department of the Navy in San Antonio that I am eligible to apply for. I have to submit my resume online to be considered. I wrote a resume a few weeks back, but I'll feel better about it if I get help from someone with skills!

We put up a sign on the bulletin board at the Post Office in our second attempt at advertising our car for sale! Tomorrow J is going to put one up at the Post Office on Molesworth, too. I think he's planning to make one to hang in the window as well. Now I guess we just sit back and pray that it will all work out smoothly.

Only 7 more days at work! 3 this week and 4 next week which will be spent trying to train my replacement. It's *so* close! And yet, too far away!!
